I've always been a boss.
As a kid I was hyper aware that I would need to be in charge of many challenging situations. My childhood felt like the cycle of a hurricane: disturbance, depression, the storm and the aftermath. Being in the eye of major emotional storms in my developmental years left me in pain long after the moments had passed. I would later be diagnosed with PTSD and endure lasting physiological effects from extreme mental traumas and the lack of tools for how to process them. One does not cultivate a zen state of mind moving from motel room to motel room as a teenager. All of those moments led me here and gave me my unique gift-- a desire to connect deeply with people about challenging stuff. But first let's hear my business story.
One Chicago winter my beauty business began..
I would travel to homes, hotels or offices using public transit slinging my suitcase and a big tanning tent! I was a Florida girl new to the Windy City. I got pale and shit got real--so I decided to play with the concept of spray tanning and I fell in love! I was self funded, self taught and in full-on hustle mode. There was no Facebook, Instagram or Uber. In Chicago mobile businesses are already tough—-between the pace of the city and the weather. What got me through was how good I was helping clients feel and straight up tenacity. Everytime I won someone over to spray tanning I would do a mental high five! Mid-westerners were not yet fully on board with the concept and were super afraid of being orange, many still are. I was determined to show them a better way to spray! I'm in awe of what's been built through word of mouth referrals, good ol' Yelp and sheer willpower. 15 years later Glowout Salons are still growing & glowing in 5 states across the USA!
